Academic Supervisor critiques your research and never writes it. Your writing stays yours and we do not train AI on it. You are responsible for what you submit to your institution, and for following its rules on using tools like this. Credits are prepaid and are not money. Nothing here is a promise that you will pass. The full terms below are what actually binds us both.
These terms are the agreement between you and us about your use of Academic Supervisor. By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
Our Privacy Notice explains what we do with your personal information, and forms part of this agreement.
Academic Supervisor is operated by [REGISTERED NAME OF THE COMPANY OR SOLE PROPRIETOR], [company type, e.g. a company limited by guarantee/shares, and its registration number], of [registered address]. In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean that entity. You can reach us at support@academicsupervisor.com.
You may use Academic Supervisor if you are 18 or older and legally able to enter into a contract. If you are below that age, you may use it only through an institution that has agreed these terms on your behalf.
You must give accurate registration details, keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Accounts are personal: do not share one, and do not let anyone else write under your name.
Academic Supervisor is a critique-only academic tool. It evaluates, questions, challenges and teaches. It does not write, rewrite, paraphrase or draft research prose, and it is built so that it cannot: replies are constrained to a fixed critique format, and anything returned as ordinary prose is rejected before it reaches you.
To be explicit about what it is not:
Your institution — not us — decides what help is permitted in your work. You are responsible for knowing your institution’s rules on using AI and third-party tools, for following them, and for declaring your use of Academic Supervisor wherever a declaration is required.
You confirm that any work you submit for assessment is your own, that you can defend it, and that using this service has not changed that. We are not responsible for any academic penalty you incur, and we cannot intervene in your institution’s processes.
We recommend telling your supervisor you are using it. The record this service keeps of how your work developed is more use to you if it was never a secret.
You own everything you write. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of your research, your data, your Alignment Matrix or your literature records to us.
You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store, reproduce, transmit and display your content so that we can show it back to you, share it with a supervisor when you choose to, and send the specific text you ask about to the AI provider named in our Privacy Notice. That permission is limited to operating the service and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your work to train AI models, we do not sell it, and we do not publish it. We do not read it except where you have specifically asked us to look at something, or where we are compelled to by law.
Critiques, sparring positions, alignment checks and literature reviews are produced by an AI model operated by a third party. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or confident about something it has misread. It can miss a real problem and it can raise one that is not there.
Treat it as a demanding reader, not as an authority. Do not cite it, do not treat its silence as approval, and do not let it stand in for your supervisor’s judgement. You are responsible for deciding what to do with anything it tells you.
We may change the underlying model, the rubrics or the prompts at any time, including in ways that change the critique you receive for the same text.
If your institution uses Academic Supervisor, it may assign a supervisor to you. Assignment alone does not give anyone sight of your work: you choose which of your projects a supervisor may open, and you can withdraw that at any time.
Supervisor access is read-only. A supervisor can read a shared project and leave comments. A supervisor cannot edit your writing, cannot use AI features on your work, and cannot submit anything on your behalf. Comments already left remain visible to you after you stop sharing.
Where your institution administers accounts, its administrators can see who is enrolled and who supervises whom. They cannot read your research through that screen.
Reading, writing, saving, accepting and exporting your own work are free. AI actions consume credits. Credits are a prepaid entitlement to use those features. They are not money, not a deposit, not a stored-value instrument and not transferable; they cannot be exchanged for cash, sold or moved between accounts.
The price of an action in credits is shown before you confirm it, and is calculated from the amount of text the AI Supervisor has to read. If an AI response fails or is refused by our own checks, you are not charged for it.
Credit packs are sold at the prices shown at the time of purchase, in the currency you select, and are processed by our payment provider. We never receive or store your card details. Prices may change; a change does not affect credits you have already bought.
Refunds. [POLICY TO CONFIRM WITH COUNSEL] Our intended policy is: unused credits are refundable within 14 days of purchase if you have not used any of that purchase; credits already spent on completed AI actions are not refundable; and if the service fails through our fault we will restore or refund the credits affected. Nothing in this clause removes any right you have under consumer law.
Expiry. Credits do not expire while your account is active. If your account is closed, unused credits are lost, subject to the refund position above.
Prices are inclusive of any tax we are required to charge. Where an institution is invoiced directly, the terms of that invoice apply in addition to these terms.
You agree not to:
We may investigate suspected breaches, and we may suspend access while we do so.
We aim to keep the service available, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may add, change, suspend or remove features, and we may carry out maintenance with or without notice. Where a change is significant and to your disadvantage, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.
Parts of the service may be offered as a pilot or early release. Those parts may be less reliable, and we may withdraw them.
You may stop using Academic Supervisor and ask us to close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used unlawfully, or where we are required to by law.
Before your account is closed you can export your writing, your Alignment Matrix and your literature records. Except where a breach makes it impossible, we will give you a reasonable opportunity to do so. After closure, your content is deleted on the timescale set out in the Privacy Notice.
So far as the law allows, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we exclude all implied warranties — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the critique you receive is correct, complete, or sufficient to meet any academic standard, nor that using the service will produce any particular academic result.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to the paragraph above, we are not liable for: loss of academic opportunity, grades, degree classification, publication, funding or professional standing; academic misconduct findings; loss of profit, revenue or goodwill; or any indirect or consequential loss.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period and [FLOOR AMOUNT — e.g. GHS 500].
This clause allocates risk in a service that is paid for in small amounts and cannot control what you submit to your institution. It is a term counsel should confirm is enforceable as drafted.
If someone brings a claim against us because of content you uploaded or because you used the service in breach of these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages we incur as a result, provided we tell you promptly and let you take part in the defence.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights we will give you notice by email or in the app before it takes effect, and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, close your account and ask us about a refund of unused credits.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana, and disputes will be dealt with by the courts of Ghana.
Before going to court, please write to us at support@academicsupervisor.com. Most complaints are quicker to fix than to litigate, and we would rather fix them.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the business is sold, on notice to you. These terms, with the Privacy Notice, are the whole agreement between us.
